Exploring Ullswater

We think exploring Ullswater is far more rewarding than wondering around Bowness and Lake Windermere with big crowds, noise and lots of pushing and barging- believe me

As a bed and breakfast in the Lake District we send many of our guests to Ullswater and what’s more, you get 10% off a ticket if you travel on the Ullswater Steamers

  1. Its quieter- Bowness is like very busy seaside resort where as Glenridding is very quiet and tranquil
  2. Beautiful drive up the Troutbeck valley and over the Kirkstone Pass and…. you can get there by bus (number 508 from Windermere to Penrith)

  3. Get a trip on one one of heritage Ullswater steamers and you’ll see some magnificent scenery
  4. The wildlife is something to behold
  5. There are some reasonable and not too demanding walks on The Ullswater Way- a path around the lake starting from Pooley Bridge or Howtown that you can get to by boat and then walk back along the shore of the lake to Glennridding- one of the few lakes you can walk round
