Rydal Mount Gardens – a must see
Located near Ambleside are Rydal Mount Gardens, the home of one of England’s finest poets, William Wordsworth. The poet landscaped the gardens with its sloping terraces, rare shrubs, trees and summer house where Wordsworth composed much of his poetry.
Recently discovered sketches drawn four months after Wordsworth’s death in April 1850 show that little has changed and that it remains a unique example of a Romantic Period garden.
There are two guided tours and various events that happen throughout the year. One guided tour includes the house and garden and the other the garden only. The former is £15 and the latter £10. Both include wine and the famous gingerbread from Grasmere.
Rydal Mount Gardens are open daily between March and October and Wednesday to Sunday at other times of the year.
